Winter Season at Ruapehu
At the heart of the region is Mt Ruapehu, home to three ski areas; the commercial areas of Turoa and Whakapapa and the club field of Tukino on the eastern flanks of the mountain.
Turoa and Whakapapa are New Zealand’s largest ski areas with the highest lift access in New Zealand and the longest vertical descent in Australasia.
Skiing, snowboard and tobogganing on the slopes is great fun and exhilarating. There are facilities and slopes to cater for all snow enthusiasts, from self contained learners’ areas to off-piste terrain for experienced skiers and riders.
The ski season really gets going from June and continues through until mid-November.
