Go Skiing & Snowboarding on Mt Ruapehu

With New Zealand’s largest ski areas Whakapapa and Turoa, skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing or just playing in the snow is a wonderful way to enjoy New Zealand’s winter. Both ski areas feature separate learners areas so improving your skills can take place in a safe environment.

Off piste areas for experienced skiers and the opportunity to explore the backcountry with the assistance of experienced guides is possible. Ski passes are valid at both Whakapapa and Turoa offering visitors more variety and interest.


Whakapapa Ski Area

-  New Zealand’s largest developed ski area (550 hectares)
-  Winter season duration: Late June – Mid November
-  Terrain/Ability levels: Beginner (25%), Intermediate (50%), Advanced (25%)
-  Scenic chairlift rides in summer: December - April
-  One pass for accessing Whakapapa and Turoa in winter

Turoa Ski Area

-  The highest ski area in New Zealand
-  Australasia’s longest vertical at 722 metres
-  Winter season: Late June to mid November
-  Size of area: 500 hectares
-  Terrain/Ability levels: Beginner (25%), Intermediate (50%) Advanced (25%)
-  One pass for accessing Turoa and Whakapapa in winter
