Tongariro Alpine Crossing

The trek through Tongariro National Park along the Tongariro Alpine Crossing is regarded as one of the world’s best one day walks. The journey will take you along the spectacular views of the lava flows of the volcanic landscapes, emerald pools and mountain area.

Trek Details

When you are planning your next adventure trekking the Tongariro, allow a full day for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing which will take about 8 hours with breaks. You will begin your journey from Mangatepopo through the Mangetepopo Valley, onto the volcano views of Mt Ngauruhoe and through to Ketetahi Springs.

Huts in Tongariro

There are some great side treks as well that are worthwhile checking out like the Mount Ngauruhoe & Mt Tongariro treks to the summit. A great way to explore the further side treks, or to help break up the 8 hour day is by staying in one of the huts along the way. There are two serviced huts, the Mangetepopo Hut and the Ketetahi Hut that are great places to stay.
